As all other world leaders seem engrossed with all sorts of half-baked ideas as to how to escape economic Armageddon, our PM is back to his pet obsession, homosexuality. Does the buggary law encompass female homosexuality? Jamaica has always been less vociferous towards lesbian. Why? Is it discrimination? Don’t lesbian merit a few hostile songs? Indeed, it is no longer a question of if, it is a question of when. The various and sundry social, economic, political, family, moral and criminal pressures that/which have build up in the society since 1962, with the attendant exogenous financial and economic meltdown are unmanageable and too colossal, too monumental, too gargantuan, too leviathian to be checked and managed in a band-aid manner, autonomous of visionary leadership, which is totally lacking in a beleaguered and pathological society. Consequently, THE RECKONING is upon us in the form of a social turbulence/uprising/fury which may not necessarily be structured or organized, but the overwhelming historical pressures need to be released, and apparently it will manifest itself in Robert Nesta Marley's prophetic lines BURNING and LOOTING or James Baldwin's THE FIRE NEXT TIME. Indeed, the lumpen have been aroused!! Can they be contained?! Adaptability, tolerability, and acceptance may no longer be a workable formula or paradigm, the elements from the canepiece are becoming restless with each passing day.
